Invitation to dr. sc. Tamara Petrović’s inaugural lecture

As per the law and according to the decision made by the Rector’s Conference, our dr. sc. Tamara Petrović will be holding her first, inaugural lecture at the Faculty on 1st October, 2018, starting at 3PM. This is the final step of the process of her becoming a member of the teaching faculty here at FER. The lecture will be held in the room D160 as part of the course Control System Elements. The topic of the lecture will be The role of elements in a control system.

Visit to the Pittini plant

On Tuesday, September 18th, our Prof. Kovačić and Prof. Bogdan, together with colleagues from Danieli Automation, visited the Pittini plant in Italy as a part of the initiative to introduce autonomous UAVs in the process of a rolling-mill facility status inspection. There they went on a tour of the plant and had a meeting to discuss the details of a future cooperation. Initial flights of the UAV, which should confirm the feasibility of the initiative, are planned for the beginning of November.

LARICS at the 2018 Ars Electronica Festival

Our Lab members, specifically Prof. Stjepan Bogdan, Karlo Griparić (a LARICS Alumni) and Marsela Polić went to Linz in Austria from the 6th to the 10th of September, 2018. There they took part in this year’s Ars Electronica Festival and presented the ASSISIbf project they’ve been working on. Our team conducted experiments with bees, fish and robots, all of which were developed as part of the project. This is the second time ASSISI has been presented at Ars Electronica, the first being in 2016.

LARICS paper presented at IFAC CAMS 2018

LARICS PhD student Marsela Polić was at the 11th IFAC Conference on Control Applications in Marine Systems, Robotics, and Vehicles – CAMS, in Opatija, Croatia, 10th-12th September 2018. There she presented a paper entitled “Compliant net for AUV retrieval using an UAV“, which was coauthored by Antun Ivanović, Marsela Polić, Omar Salah, Matko Orsag and Stjepan Bogdan. The research for the paper was done as part of the MORUS project, funded by NATO’s Emerging Security Challenges Division in the framework of the Science for Peace and Security Programme.
