LARICS was present at the Festival of Science held in Zagreb, April 23-28 2012 with the workshop entitled „Walking robots – from mimicking of animals to mimicking of humans“. The festival was traditionally organized by the Technical Museum Zagreb, the British Council and the University of Zagreb. This workshop was designed as a one-hour interactive performance where Prof. Zdenko Kovačić, Alan Mutka, Damjan Miklić, Tamara Petrović, Anja Babić, Kruno Hrvatinić, and Ivan Domladovec demonstrated six-, four- and two-legged walking robots from our laboratory.
The aim of the workshop was to raise interest of students and pupils in the area of biologically inspired robotics. The workshop also supported the initiative of the Croatian Society for Robotics to maintain the robotic competition Robotic Alka in Sinj in 2015 to mark the 300th Anniversary of the famous Sinjska Alka. On that course, LARICS is developing a robotic knight – „alkar“ with a spear riding on a horse (four-legged walking/running robot).
